A BOURNEMOUTH parliamentary candidate has pledged to get railways in the town ‘back on track’.
Tom Hayes, Labour’s candidate for Bournemouth East, has supported the party’s plans to overhaul the railway in Britain, which were announced yesterday, April 25.
Labour said it would fold existing private passenger rail contracts into Great British Railways as they expire to create a publicly owned and passenger focused railway.
The party would expect to complete the transition to public ownership within the first term of a Labour government.
This would also see a new passenger watchdog formed, the Passenger Standards Authority.
Tom said: “For too long local people have been let down by unreliable, inefficient train services, holding back our economy and stopping people getting ahead.
“That’s why I am supporting Labour’s plans to establish Great British Railways to put trains back in public hands and put the passenger first.
“As the first ever Labour MP for Bournemouth East, I would vote for a best ticket price guarantee and automatic delay repay and a new passenger watchdog to hold Great British Railways to account.
“Labour’s plans will get our railways back on track, put passengers first, and get Bournemouth and Britain moving, no matter where you live.”
